Milling Machine Vs. 3D Printer: Which One Could Be the Prosthetic Solution for the Next Generations?

With the rapid evolution of digital dentistry, clinicians face a critical decision when investing in restorative technologies: traditional subtractive milling or emerging additive 3D printing. This lecture presents a comparative analysis of both techniques in the form of a debate. The presenters will compare both techniques in the fabrication of dental restorations—highlighting their respective advantages, limitations, clinical outcomes, and long-term economic impacts. Key factors such as material versatility, accuracy, speed, cost-efficiency, and maintenance requirements will be discussed. Real-world case examples and practice-based evidence will support the evaluation. The debate aims to provide clear guidance for clinicians and dental practice owners seeking the most strategic and future-ready investment for delivering high-quality, efficient, and patient-centered care.
